How to DJ - Ep. 3 (8/8) - James Zabiela - Mastering The Scene

In this final instalment of the How to DJ series, James Zabiela continues where he left off last time: exploring mad-sounding effects like the transform scratch effect. Now if youve seen James jamming then youve probably heard him rinsing the EFX-1000s transform effect, which is a way to reproduce a transform scratch digitally. To demonstrate, James sets about creating one of his sculptures by looping a scratch sample and then introducing the transform effect. He also shows how he improvises live by creating patterns using the EFXs beat select buttons to move the sound in all kinds of weird and wonderful directions. So watch those hands/transformers in disguise The tuneage is supplied by ALiVE, who are still giving away Tom Buddens track Willow as featured by James in these tutorials. You can now download your free MP3 via the ALiVE Facebook fan page, here: bit.ly Well, thats all for now, folks! How to DJ is produced by DJdownload.com and Ministry of Sound TV. Benassy moved from MYhouse to electro, “Satisfaction”, what took Benassi’s success worldwide a year later with skilled DJs like Carl Cox, Darren Emerson, and Roger Sanchez. Carl Cox Profile - Singers Review

Carl Cox is the first person to be named number one DJ in the world on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ poll when he won in 1997. He began his career as a hardcore and acid house DJ in the 1980s and made a name for himself as the “Three Deck Wizard” in 1988.

During that year’s Second Summer of Love, he began to play on three turntables at once. He has played at clubs such as The Eclipse, Edge, Shelly’s, Sterns Nightclub, Heaven, Sir Henry’s in Cork, Angels and The Haienda.

During a gig in Venezuela in 2007 a shooting spree broke out. Four people were killed and five were injured. There is a video from the club, showing Cox’s reaction to the gunfire and the aftermath of the shooting, was posted on the Internet. Cox later made a statement on his website: He says: “I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of Saturday [3rd November]. My condolences go out to victims that were caught up in the horrific act that took place at this gig.

I am informed that it was gang-related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7000 people having fun. I find it such a sad moment in electronic music as this was probably one of the best set up shows I had played in South America - a sign of real progress…yet utterly hijacked by this mindless act.

Again, my heart goes out to those that have died or been injured. This is NOT what the dance scene is about and is a million miles away from what I want to do, or promote.” Albums: In 1996 At The End Of The Cliche, (edel UK Records/Worldwide Ultimatum Records), in 1999 Phuture 2000′ (edel UK Records/Worldwide Ultimatum Records), and in 2005 Second Sign Carl’s ‘Global’ radio show has now reached over 4 million listeners and is broadcast across 24 countries worldwide, making him one of the most important broadcasters on the planet.

Look out soon for the forthcoming DVD, which is an insight into Coxy’s life, following him on his travels around the world, with interviews from friends, family and industry figures along the way. The DVD will feature a full set recorded live from his sell out gig at Matter in London and promises to be an absolute must for all dance music fans. Carl Cox is truly a musical ambassador, a professional DJ since his early teens, a veteran of acid house and a champion of techno.

Sasha Profile - Singers Review

His real name is Alexander Paul Coe and he is born on the 4th of September in 1969, in Bangor (Wales). He is a Welsh DJ and record producer.

His career began in the late 1980s with him playing acid house dance music and became a central figure in the development and popularisation of electronic dance music. He became partners with the following DJs John

Digweed in 1993, touring internationally and producing a series of mixes. Through their track selection and mixing techniques, Sasha and Digweed were instrumental in the evolution of progressive trance and house music. Sasha became aware of electronic dance music in 1988 at The Haienda, a Manchester dance venue.

Drawn to the rough sound of acid house music and the rebellious attitude he associated with it, he visited Manchester weekly and soon moved to nearby Disley. His music is influenced by the early sound of The Haienda, and Sasha began his career playing records of the rough, danceable genre of acid house. By the early 1990s, he had moved towards a more dark European house music style, though by the time of his Shelley’s residency he had begun to experiment more with American house.

Sasha has remixed tracks for artists such as Madonna and The Chemical Brothers. His remix of Felix da Housecat’s “Watching Cars Go By” earned him a 2004 Grammy nomination.

He is back with Digweed even though frequent performing kept them apart for several years, Sasha and Digweed announced that they would reunite for a few Australian performances. In 2008, Sasha and Digweed kicked off an American tour with a performance at the Winter Music Conference. The duo played at mainly larger venues on the weekends and smaller (750-1000 people) shows on weekdays

Sasha’s remixing and production often combine electronic music genres, making it difficult for critics to pinpoint his musical style, including on his debut album of original work, Airdrawndagger.

Marcus Schulz Profile - Singers Review

Markus Schulz is a German trance music DJ and producer. His weekly radio show titled “Global DJ Broadcast” makes him so famous. He is also the founder of the EDM label Coldharbour Recordings.

He is born in Eschwege (Central Germany), Markus emigrated to the United States in the 80s. Markus’ freshman production release followed in 1994 with the 6-track-strong ‘Plastik Trax EP Vol 1′.

Throughout the mid to late Nineties he followed up with a range of releases on numerous US luminary labels. He recorded ‘You Won’t See Me Cry’ for Plastik Records in 1998 (his first label), a release which was picked up by Eve Records for the UK. This became Markus’ first international sound-out.

Schulz’s DJ career has run parallel to that of his productions. In the early Nighties, having focused on the hinterland between trance & progressive, he began to reach audiences further and further afield. Then in 2004 he was signed to the David Lewis Productions agency. Now he is a regular fixture at the world’s biggest clubs, arenas and festivals, he lays down his unique trance-progressive hybrid weekly.

After several significant showings in the Top 100 DJs chart, he now ranks as one of the top 10 DJs in the world and in 2008 was voted Best American DJ at the International Dance Music Awards. Schulz’s sound was heard by continental European DJs. Following the formation of the Armada group in 2005, Armin van Buuren sought Markus out and asked him to start compiling tracks for a new vinyl series. The Coldharbour Sessions EPs launched in 2004.

They began to make notable impacts on dancefloors and within 12 months Coldharbour Recordings the label was born. Markus Schulz makes only rare use of pseudonyms through his career reportedly seeing them as being only valuable if they represent an outlet for something other than his ‘regular’ output.

He released 3 tracks “Swirl”, “Frozen” and “Lost in Brixton” under the moniker Dakota. Over time these became focal points for newer fans. Schulz resurrected the guise in 2009 and updated its sound and directed his attentions on a whole album of new Dakota material. ‘Thoughts Become Things’ was the end product and with it came a route diversion that went into a new valley-deep sound.
