In this final instalment of the How to DJ series, James Zabiela continues where he left off last time: exploring mad-sounding effects like the transform scratch effect. Now if youve seen James jamming then youve probably heard him rinsing the EFX-1000s transform effect, which is a way to reproduce a transform scratch digitally. To demonstrate, James sets about creating one of his sculptures by looping a scratch sample and then introducing the transform effect. He also shows how he improvises live by creating patterns using the EFXs beat select buttons to move the sound in all kinds of weird and wonderful directions. So watch those hands/transformers in disguise The tuneage is supplied by ALiVE, who are still giving away Tom Buddens track Willow as featured by James in these tutorials. When people like Dr.Dre started his future career as a DJ when he was a young teenager, the term “Digital DJ” did not exist for him. He used vinyl records which would now be considered by most people who like technology, the “old school” way spinning music.
There’s a lot of people out there who prefer a turntable that uses CDs. instead of starting a vinyl collection, they can simply use the hundreds of CDs they have. They can also increase or decrease the tempo of one song and mix into another song from a different CD.

Never be a “one sided” DJ with the same types of music and don’t be afraid to show your talent. Mix different types of songs together like old school rap flowing into an alternative song and then mixing it into today’s hit song. Change things up bit and keep the audience amused. People like different types of music, remember that!
You just arrived at your gig with a boat load music to mix. But, some times there might only be a certain genre that people are into, or your audience might be very diverse. Before you start dropping what you do best, get a good feel for the type of people you’re entertaining and give them what they want and switch it up a bit.
Along with all of the other artists who have the classic songs for wedding receptions, Edwin McCain was at the top with some of the best. That is…until the DJ equipment was accidentally transitioned to Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit.

I’m sorry to say it just doesn’t happen like that. If there is one thing I’ve learned that I can pass on to you is that without actually seeing how it’s done, books on how to DJ are pretty much useless.
